MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY
Carved in low relief with two monkeys and their young, with a small insect flying above, the infant holding a fruiting branch of persimmon, the animals realistically rendered with their fur coats finely carved, a band of scrolling clouds to the rim, signed with a seal mark for Onizawa to the side; with an ornate metal ring to the foot and mounted on a tall wooden stand, supported on five scrolling legs and carved with patterns of bamboo branches and leaves, 70.5cm overall.
