The Japanese sale on 7th December 2020 features 200 lots including ceramics, metalworks, paintings and other important works of art. The scroll painting of Dutchmen and Courtesans (lot 264) gives a rare glimpse into the life of Westerners in Edo Period Japan. The impressive Myochin articulated iron model of a snake (lot 325), the Komai-style inlaid iron model of a pagoda (lot 335) and the fine Nogawa iron miniature cabinet (lot 334) are some of the many highlights to be found in the metalwork section of the sale. The Arita model of a lion dog (210) and the Kakiemon model of a 'flaming tortoise' (lot 211) are rare examples of 17th century polychrome models of mythical beasts, and the ceramic section also includes a large variety of Meiji period (1868-1912) pieces such as lot 256, the large baluster vase with landscape by Makuzu Kozan (1842-1916).
Please contact Alexandra Aguilar at aa@woolleyandwallis.co.uk for enquiries about the lots or to make an appointment to view the sale. Viewing in Salisbury will be by appointment only. There will be no viewing on the morning of the sale.
