A FINE FRENCH ORMOLU AND PORCELAIN JAPONISME CLOCK GARNITURE

ATTRIBUTED TO L'ESCALIER DE CRISTAL, C.1880

the brass eight day drum movement striking on a gong, stamped '125' and 'C' to the backplate, on a simulated cloisonné porcelain dial, decorated in the manner of Kiffert, with faux Japanese character numerals on a blue and gilt ground surrounded with birds and flowers, the sides with similarly decorated panels, in an ormolu case with a finial as a peacock perched on flowering prunus and a rectangular stand above pierced scrolling corbels and meandering foliage, on an integral base with a central porcelain panel surrounded by scrolls and foliage on elephant head feet, with a pendulum; together with a pair of five light candelabra en suite, the scrolling dragon arms with pierced brackets supporting urn nozzles on a square section vase painted with birds and flowers on a simulated cloisonné ground, with lion dog mask handles, on a stepped base with scrolling and foliate decoration on short feet, stamped 37444 to the underside (3)
