Our January auction has over 800 lots of fine period furniture, treen, sculpture, Grand Tour works of art, lighting, carpets and collectable items. Day 2 (lots 380-813) has a strong section of European furniture and works of art lead by a fine pair of Italian walnut and parcel gilt figural torcheres by the Italian sculptor Angiolo Barbetti (407). These stunning figures carved in the round depict scantily clad Nubians with fantastic attention to detail. They are both signed and dated ‘1866’ and are of exhibition quality.

We are delighted to be offering a small collection of French ‘Japonisme’ influenced bronzes, clocks and works of art. Following displays of Japanese art and objects at the London International  Exhibition of 1862 and the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1867 the Japanese style became hugely popular. French designers and manufacturers incorporated Japanese design elements into their wares to cater for the growing demand for the ‘Japonisme’ style. The highlight is a pair of French bronze ‘Japanese’ figures possibly by Barbedienne (459) and a fine bronze and cloisonne jardiniere by Maison Marnyhac (452). Day 2 also includes a good selection of Regency and later furniture including: a fine rosewood and brass mounted centre table attributed to Marsh and Tatham (591) and a handsome early Victorian burr walnut kidney shape desk by Gillows (701).

COLLECTION OF LOTS
We are pleased to offer two weeks free storage for all lots purchased from this sale. However, owing to a busy sale schedule, all bought lots not collected by 4pm on Friday 2nd February 2024 will be transferred to Sackville­West Moving & Storing in Andover, where they will be available for collection from Wednesday 7th February.
Please note, handling and storage charges will be applied from Wednesday 7th February 2024
