Furniture, Works of Art, Carpets & Clocks - including the Homm Collection of Carpets Part One

Day 2 of our January auction on the 15th January commences with a very good selection of 18th century furniture and works of art. Lot 402 is a very striking William and Mary japanned cabinet on a contemporary giltwood stand. For early walnut collector’s we are offering Lot 403 a very rare Queen Anne bachelor’s chest / writing table. This chest is a very rare form and with a lockable top with secret compartments. A similar example formerly in the Irwin Untermyer collection is now in the Metropolitan Museum in New York. We are proud to showcase a number of lots formerly at Malmesbury House, in Salisbury’s Cathedral Close. Highlights include: Lot 441 a rare pair of George III harewood and marquetry card tables formerly in the collection of Baroness Burton sold by Christie’s in 1954 and Lot 482 a fine George III satinwood and marquetry commode in the manner of Ince and Mayhew.
The Clock section is led by Lot 504 a fine William and Mary red tortoiseshell table clock by Thomas Martin which was originally in the Wetherfield Collection and the sale also includes a number of Private Collections.
Day 2 concludes with the Homm Collection of Carpets, Part One which is being offered for sale without reserve. The collection has been formed over a number of years and includes Lot 690 a Chinese silk ‘Five Drago’ rug and Lot 715 a fine Feraghan rug.
