A George III sycamore and marquetry box, the sliding cover with chequer stringing and flower and leaf inlay, to a paper lined interior inset with twelve ivory disc shape receptacles, and two glass phials, the lid inscribed in pencil 'Rasors F P 1823', 1.25in (2.7cm) h, 7.5in (19cm) w, 5.5in (14cm) d. Old damages and restoration.
The use of this box is unclear one theory is that it was an actor's make-up/rouge box. There are traces of paint to the interior so it could have also been used as a paint box.
