Four World War I Trench Art rings, one inscribed '1914 YPRES 1915', two similar rings each with a French soldier grabbing a German shoulder, inscribed 'NOUS LES AURONS' and one in the form of a snake, together with two letters relating to the rings written by Private Jack Ring to his mother and father in 1915. One letter dated 25th December 1915 and addressed from Whiz-bang Alley, Front-line Trenches, Flanders mentions one ring '..one is in the image of a snake and can be twisted to fit the finger as required', 'I intend to try and make one or two myself as soon as I get a chance to melt the aluminium. (6)

Private Jack Ring was born in 1891 and brought up on the Isle of Wight. His father sent him to seek his fortune in Canada. On the outbreak of the war Jack enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force, 29th C Company (Vancouver). He started off in the Signals and finished as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Flying Corps.
