the brass eight day movement with four turned pillars and an anchor escapement, striking on a bell, the arched twelve inch dial wit a silvered chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals, the matted centre with a date aperture and subsidiary seconds dial, with gilt female mask spandrels, the arch with a signed rondel 'Richard Smith Dunstable', the case gilt decorated with chinoiserie scenes, with pagodas, animals and figures on horseback, the hood with fret spandrels

Acquired by Mac Humble in the 1980's from a Mrs De Vere Chamberlain of Camden Crescent, Bath. By repute, it once belonged to the former Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain.
