the brass eight day drum movement with an outside countwheel striking on a bell, the circular white enamel dial with Roman hours and Arabic seconds, signed 'Galle, rue Vivenne a Paris', the case decorated with a classical maiden holding a wreath of flowers and leaves above three winged cupids in a reed basket, the base further decorated with swags and laurel leaves, with winding key and pendulum

Catalogue Note

Claude Galle was a renowned bronzier. He was born in 1758 and died in 1815. He first established a business at Rue du Four before moving to 69 Rue Vivenne. He supplied works to many French and Italian palaces.
