Day 1 of our Summer Furniture sale features a number of rare and interesting pieces from private collections.  Highlights include: Lot 25 a rare Elizabeth I leather travelling a trunk, which features a fall front revealing a gilt tooled interior with drawers.  A very similar example can be found in the V&A museum. The Oak and Country section includes further items from the Geoffrey Chesters Collection of Treen and also a  wonderful pair of 18th century lignum vitae loving cups with silver mounts, lot 77. Leading the furniture is lot 132 a fine Regency mahogany four pillar dining table, originally purchased from Sotheby’s back in 1988. Day one includes almost 50 lots of clocks and scientific instruments, the highlight is lot 234 a rare tortoiseshell cased longcase clock by John Miller. Other highlights from Day 1 include: an Anti-Slavery tea caddy attributed to Henry Clay and a good selection of samplers and needleworks.
