λ A pair of French Dieppe ivory figures of Night and Day after Jean-Jacques Pradier, each carved in the form of a scantily clad maiden accompanied by a cherub, carved with flowers and stars, each on a verde antico socle, the underside of one with an old handwritten paper label inscribed 'DAY AND NIGHT BY ALBERT TOFT FROM THE FITZROY COLLECTION 100 GUINEAS', late 19th / early 20th century, the figures: 29.5cm high, overall: 34.3cm high. Provenance: Purchased by a relative of the vendor's from Isaac Marks Antiques, 94 Grey Street, Newcastle on Tyne, 3rd February 1930 for £35 as a pair of ivory figures by Albert Toft. A copy of the original receipt is available.
