Catalogue Note
Sir Baber Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana was a member of the Nepalese Rana Dynasty. He fought in the First World War, was made an Honorary Colonel to the British Army in 1927, Commanding General of the Nepalese Army in 1934 and appointed as Minister of Defence in Nepal in 1951.
Muhammad Tawfiq Pasha was the eldest son of Khedive Ismail, and as appointed by the Ottoman Sultan as Khedive of Egypt between 1879 and 1892 during which time he reorganised the Egyptian legal system and oversaw the formation of the General Assembly and Legislative Council.
