A FRENCH MARQUETRY TABLE A ECRIRE IN LOUIS XVI STYLE

with gilt bronze mounts and banded with tulipwood, the oval top inlaid with a basket of flowers, above a pull-out leather lined slide and a side frieze drawer, with further floral marquetry inlay, on cabriole legs and leaf cast sabots united by a conforming undertier, the underside with an applied metal label inscribed 'Hamilton Place Collection K.P.G.'

Lionel de Rothschild (1808-1879) acquired the lease of 5 Hamilton Place which was situated behind his house, 148 Piccadilly, bordering Hyde Park. He bequeathed it to his youngest son, Leopold (1845-1917).
