A Staffordshire model of Admiral Blake, titled, 19th century, 26cm. Cf. Pugh, p.219. Robert Blake (1599-1657) was second only to Nelson. The highlight of his career was the destruction of the Spanish West Indies Fleet at Santa Cruz in 1657. He died of fever as his ship was entering Plymouth harbour after the exploit.
