A Plymouth figure group
A Plymouth figure group, c.1770, modelled with two putti and a goat, the putti wearing floral diadems and carrying a basket of grapes, raised on a tall scrolled base with puce detailing, restoration to the goat's leash and horns, 14.5cm.
Provenance: the John Buckingham Collection.
The original source for the model is a bronze group by Jacques Sarazzin of c.1640 in the Louvre. The same group was produced at both Longton Hall and Vauxhall and it is possible that the Plymouth example copied these rather than the original bronze.
