A Tournai egg cup from the Duc d'Orleans service c.1787-92, painted with three small panels of moths and other insects reserved on a dark blue band with gilt scrolls, raised on a knopped stem, 8cm.
This service was made for Philippe duc d'Orléans in 1787 and originally consisted of 1,603 pieces. It was dispersed during the French Revolution, with the largest part of the service now in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle, including 23 egg cups.
