A Chinese export black lacquer box, of canted rectangular form, inlaid with mother of pearl figures flowers and foliage, brass carrying handles to the sides, early 19th century, 54cm wide. Provenance: Acquired by John Reeves after his arrival in Canton in 1812, and thence by descent.
