A set of Chinese opium scales, in a hardwood case with a guitar-shaped lower section containing gilt metal pans and an ivory scale, together with a collection of spindles, needlecases, hair ornaments, a bone carving of a bear baiting, and an opium knife with an axe-shaped blade. (A lot)
Provenance: Acquired by John Reeves after his arrival in Canton in 1812, and thence by descent.
