A good Chinese blue and white compressed circular vase, the body painted with a wide band of four phoenix in flight, divided by large peony blooms issuing from a continuous serpentine scroll, the shoulder with panels of peony and chrysanthemum on a complex geometric ground, Wanli 1573-1620, 25.5cm across.
