A CHINESE JADEITE SNUFF BOTTLE

The ovoid body well hollowed and carved in high relief with a continuous scene of a carp emerging from waves and transforming into a dragon chasing a flaming pearl, with cloud pillows on the shoulders, 6.2cm.
Provenance: an English private collection, formerly from the collection of Gerry P Mack, purchased from Robert Kleiner & Co. Ltd., 20th January 2000, a copy of the invoice is available.

The scene of a carp and a dragon alludes to the path of the scholar who must leap the Longmen Falls (pass his examinations), in order to be transformed into a dragon.
