A CHINESE RED OVERLAY GLASS YANGZHOU SCHOOL SNUFF BOTTLE
DATED 1822
Attributed to Li Junting, with an ovoid milky-white ground overlaid with red with two boys stirring a pot and with an inscription on the shoulder giving the cyclical date renwu, the reverse with a boy kneeling beside a water buffalo and with the seal zhengke (good luck), 5.4cm.
Provenance: an English private collection, formerly from the collection of Margaret Polak, California, purchased from Robert Kleiner & Co. Ltd., 2nd July 2007, a copy of the invoice is available.
Dated Yangzhou bottles are rare but have been recorded with dates between 1819-22.
