£20,000 - £30,000 £22,000

A large rare Chinese embroidered silk panel 17th/18th century, depicting an Immortal wearing billowing dragon robes, stroking his beard and holding a ruyi sceptre in his right hand, with two bats flying above his left shoulder, he looks down to a small attendant boy carrying two peaches to signify immortality, a small amount of staining, damage and fading to the panel, 201cm x 135cm. Provenance: formerly in the estate of Elyse Lord, Artist and Printmaker, d.1971. Elyse Lord's subject matter was often exotic Oriental figures and flowers, probably inspired by items such as these in her own collection. She exhibited at the Royal Academy on several occasions. Until 1939 she exhibited regularly with the Lefevre Gallery in London and the publisher Alex Reid issued much of her work as book illustrations including the Arabian Knights.
