A Japanese tanto 18th/19th century

A Japanese tanto 18th/19th century, the blade of strict form with suguha temper, details of tang unavailable, mounted in a ribbed red lacquer scabbard with plain ribbed brass kozuka and kogai, silver hamidashi tsuba carved with waves, shokudo fushi-kashira carved with maple leaves, with a silk bag, the blade 23.7cm.

Provenance: from the collection of Luís Esteves Fernandes (1897-1988).
