A Chinese blue and white baluster vase Kangxi 1662-1722, brightly painted with four young women representing the four female virtues, and with sixteen boys at play, the reverse with plantain and with Buddhist symbols to the rim, a wood cover and stand, 38.5cm. (3)

This subject is derived from the Shang dynasty story of Jiang Ziya, the senior military counsellor who famously appointed sixteen good generals.
