λ A rare Chinese Imperial red cinnabar lacquer box and cover Qianlong 1736-95, the lobbed body carved in relief with eight panels containing seasonal flowers on a ground of formal scrolling lotus, the cover with a geometric cell-diaper ground inset in jade, hardstones, ivory and turquoise with a vase of flowers and other auspicious things, the inlays to the cover perhaps later additions, 31.5cm. (2)

Sold together with a letter to General Spratt Bowring from Wang Ho Hsuan, dated Peking July 1901.

Provenance: General Spratt Bowring, acquired in the Boxer Rebellion.
