A rare Chinese cast bronze scholar's table screen 17th/18th century, depicting numerous figures with pine sprays, cloud scrolls, a crane and a deer and other auspicious things above a reticulated fence with lotus and a turtle below, with a hardwood stand, the screen 24cm x 26.5cm, 35.5cm overall. (2)

Provenance: formerly the collection of Morris Marcus (d.1923), and then his daughter Miss I Marcus, both of Redhill, Surrey. Purchased by Gerald Mere, Christie, Manson & Woods, 6th December 1932, lot 78, and thence by descent.

This screen depicts the famous meeting of literati at the Orchid Pavilion, (Lan Ting Wen Hui) in the year 353AD.
