Fine Asian Art

Tuesday 20th May 2025. Starts at 10:00am

This May, we are pleased to present two rare Chinese artworks from the collection of William Cleverley Alexander: an underglaze red ‘squirrel and vine’ vase and a yellow-glazed ‘fu shou’ ewer. Consigned directly from the family, these exceptional pieces have remained unseen on the market for over a century.

Their original owner, William Cleverley Alexander (1849–1916), was an avid amateur artist, and his meticulous illustrations of the items can still be found on their original invoices from 1907 and 1913, as well as in his detailed collection notes.

Highlights from the sale include a fine and rare Yongzheng mark and period sacrificial-blue glazed double-gourd vase, along with Tibetan and Nepalese Buddhist treasures from the collection of Mr Nicholas Squire (1949–2024), Suffolk, acquired from Spink & Son and Ashencaen & Leonov.

Highlights of the sales will be displayed at our Mayfair office in early May. Please contact the department at AsianArt@woolleys.live for more information.
