A fine Chinese armorial coffee cup and saucer c.1755, decorated with the arms of Browne, Viscount Montagu quartering six other coats, within a gilt spearhead border, the cup with a small rim chip, 12cm. (2) Provenance: the Clifford Henderson collection. Purchased at Heirloom and Howard in 1993. Formerly in a sale at Christie's, New York in 1993. This service was probably made for Anthony Browne, 6th Viscount Montagu. A tea service with this armorial is in the collection at Althorpe, home of Earl Spencer.
