AN UNUSUAL CHINESE BLANC DE CHINE ENAMELLED 'PRUNUS' SLEEVE VASE
KANGXI 1662-1722
The tall body decorated in relief with mythical beast medallions set between two enamelled sprays of blossoming prunus, the applied branches forming the handles, painted with two birds perched amongst the flowers, all against a narrow incised band of key fret, with a further incised band of broad upright leaves encircling the foot, 28cm.
Cf. P J Donnelly, Blanc de Chine, pl.51C for a related 18th century vase also with applied prunus decoration.
