'Thisbe' a fine and rare Morris & Company two tile panel designed by Edward Coley Burne-Jones, 1861-1862, taken from Chaucer's Legend of Goode Wimmen painted in colours with a standing figure beside sword and tree, the tree with trailing inscription, behind the sword hilt inscribed Nini Regis minor nicks 25.7cm. high Richard & Hilary Myers William Morris Tiles Richard Dennis Publications, another example illustrated on the front cover, also illustrated the original drawing page 23 figure 40. A Comparable tile sold Christie's South Kensington Arts and Crafts 2nd November 2000 lot 20 This two tile panel follows the original design by Edward Coley Burne-Jones with the same Thisbe inscription to the banner. The inscription Nini Regis relates to the tomb of King Ninus of Assyria (who founded the eponymous city of Ninevah) it is here where Pyramus and Thisbe had their final assignation.
