A large Torquay terracotta pottery vase by Alexander Fisher, shouldered form, painted with two herons wading in shallow water, the next with printed carnation flower repeat band, enamelled in colours and highlighted in gilt, signed A Fisher to side, minor frit chips, 43cm. high

Keith Poole The Art of the Torquay and South Devon Potters, page 103 figure 148 for a comparable vase by Alexander Fisher. Alexander Fisher was awardedspecial mention and was highly acclaimed for a pair of Eastern vases painted with storks and herons at the Paris exhibition of 1878. Alexander Fisher senior, was the father of the well known enamel artist (Alexander Fisher).
