An early Martin Brothers stoneware ewer by Robert Wallace Martin, dated 1874, made at Fulham, swollen form, incised with a panel of three owls perched on an oak bough, the reverse with a panel of a flying bird, inside impressed floret ground, the neck with shield RWM, the applied handle with a lion mask to the base, glazed blue, brown and white on a buff ground, with applied metal rim and cover, incised I RWMartin Fulham, London 5/74, old repair to handle, 30cm.high

This is probably the first example of Robert Wallace Martin's depictions of a family of birds, here the three owls huddled together as a family.
