A rare Della Robbia Pottery wall plaque

A rare Della Robbia Pottery wall plaque, rectangular, modelled in low relief with a grasshopper below a garland of buttercups, in shades of blue, green and yellow on a white ground, unsigned, minor glaze chips, 20.5 x 15.5cm. Literature Peter Hyland The Della Robbia Pottery Birkenhead 1894-1906, Antique Collector's Club, page 135 figure 145 for another example illustrated. It is stated that two examples of this plaque were included in the Della Robbia closing sale in 1906. Provenance Hannah Jones (Della Robbia artist), thence by descent when purchased by the present collector in 1971.
