Arts and Crafts
Wednesday 17th June 2015. Starts at 10:30am
The sale will include a selection of ceramics, glass, furniture and metalware. Already consigned is an archive of work directly from descendants of Walter Crane (1845-1915), the illustrator of children's books. Walter Crane also designed one of the highlights in a private collection of Pilkington's Lancastrian pottery (21 lots), a fine wall charger painted with a displaying peacock. The lots include one of Crane's palettes (caked in oil paint), his easel and a unique embroidered cabinet.
The sale also includes a Martin Brothers stoneware bird made in 1884 by Robert Wallace, together with other Martinware pieces. An exhibition of 50 pieces of Martinware is being held alongside the sale to commemorate the centenary of the death of Edwin Bruce Martin. Click here for details.
Concluding the sale will be a section of furniture, garden pottery, jewellery and metal ware retailed by Liberty & Co.
