Selling at Woolley & Wallis
Valuation for Sale
We offer a free valuation service for any item brought into the Salerooms. An appointment with the appropriate specialist is advisable. If you have a number of items or a house contents, please contact us and ask for one of our valuers to visit your home.
Reserve Price
We usually recommend that your goods are sold with a discretionary reserve, which gives us a 10% leeway on the lower estimate printed in the catalogue. Wider levels of discretion may be applied if discussed in advance. Reserves can be fixed at the lower estimate (but not above), giving you a price below which your item will not sell. Certain lots may be offered without a reserve and can therefore be sold at any price.
Before the Auction
You will receive notification of the lot numbers of your property and a complimentary illustrated catalogue, usually about two weeks before the sale. You are, of course, welcome to come to the view or attend the auction if you wish.
Settlement
Sale results are sent out within 48 hours of the auction and settlement is usually made five weeks after the sale, subject to normal business conditions unless the buyer has not paid for the goods.
Charges
Our vendor's commission is on a sliding scale and is charged per lot.
10% (+ VAT) for lots realising £1000 and above.
15% (+ VAT) for lots realising up to £999.
There is a minimum charge of £5 (+VAT) per lot. Insurance is charged at 1.5% (+ VAT) of hammer price. Charges for illustrations in the catalogue and on our website are usually agreed in advance. There are normally no charges for unsold lots with agreed reserves. Removal costs will be charged where appropriate.
